The Falls of Clyde - the Iron Hull

The Frames are soft soldered in place on the Keel - The Keelson and Stringers are then soft soldered on top of the Floors.  All parts first being tinned as also the relevant places, so it is only necessary to heat with the soldering iron or carbon rod to secure the joint. Pillars are of nickel silver wire, flattened at one end so as to fit around the bulb iron beam and provided with 2 rivet heads.  These are then tinned and soft soldered to the beams and provided with a base, with two rivet heads for soft soldering to the tween deck plating and the top of the Keelson in the hold.  The ships ladder is fabricated from brass silver soldered together - further techniques and fittings will be dealt with as the project progresses.
