The Falls of Clyde - 1878

The start of the waterline model of the Falls of Clyde.  The timber used is Obeche, also called African Whitewood and used by pattern makers, because of it’s straight grain and ease of working. Copies of the plans are glued to 1/8” thick hardboard  for use as patterns to assist in carving the    hull which is formed of 6 blocks doweled together.  This is then marked out with all of the frame position to assist in positioning of the deck fittings and furniture.  The side pattern will eventually be glued between the side timbers to form the centre line of the hull, to also assist in locating the later deck fittings.
